Lonely Planet

In this large lonely universe there are places that are lonelier than me and some day i hope to see them all. Until then Ian Wright of "LONELY PLANET" fame on the Discovery Channel
and Edwin Hubble who proposed the Big Bang Theory are the inspirations for this little poem.

LONELY PLANET

In a galaxy filled with a billion stars
there exists a planet close to Mars.
It is filled with air, water and land
and hosts millions of species that thrive on its sands.
But all around it there is nothing but space
which makes it a lonely, lonely place.
It has as its closest buddy
a battered lifeless moon, dark and muddy.
But the planet is not alone
as there are 8 others to share its home.
Hot,hot Mercury and fiery red Mars
are a sharp contrast to the bright background of stars.
Saturn and Jupiter are giants to behold
while Neptune and Pluto are ice,ice cold.
Only Venus and Uranus remain in the fold
sentries on the borders of hot and cold.
In the far distant future when humans will no longer be
this lonely planet will begin moving closer to me.
And with the same force of its birth will it unite
with me to find a place to my heart's right.
Only then will the planet have many a friend
as space and time comes to an end.
